TD5 Auto Gearbox overheating

Hi Sorry if I sound thick but here goes, just bought a Discovery that had been stood for over a year, everything is ok but the auto box electrics are playing up, first the over temp light came on after driving 3-4miles, then today I went to reverse out of the drive and the M & S lights started to flash any ideas

M&s is probably down to low battery voltage, did you physically check ( by feel) if the sump on the box was extremely hot?.. Possably be duff sensor on the cooling circuit(up front near rad)

It baffles me that people still dont read/see the sub forums under engines .......

since when has a 19j been anything like a td5 ..... :doh::doh::doh:

Thanks for the replys, no didn't check the Gbox sump, and yes possible low battery as its
been stood for nearly a week since last run.
Ps sorry sypher coundn't find a thread for Discovery Auto box problems, can you point me in the right direction

checked sump with hand, only warm, but further up the box it was hotter
