Pre Winter Prep
G/Box T/Box Diffs fluid change, all nipples greased. (pre winter prep)
Brake Update, (new MC / BRV and all lines)
Much betterer, very pleased with new brakes the usual skinned knuckles, colourful language etc standard practice for most works etc.

Next up:
Works: Clutch, Flywheel, Clutch MC and Slave, and all clutch lines, need to do before it gets too chillus around the willus.
Planned: front end re-design Shocks and springs all round.

Had rear windows tinted today, very pleased chap did a top job. I did not realise how grubby the back was when I took the spare wheel off! View attachment 138337View attachment 138338

apologies to raise such an old post but I saw you posted another update so thought you might not mind, where and how much did it cost to get all the rear windows tinted? Really want to do my 90 but can’t seem to get an idea on pricing anywhere

Its that time of the year, the summer draws to a close I visit old bexley village, whislt remaining alert for crazy customisezed ethanol / propane powered modified defenders ready to pounce nr the bus garage ( @bankz5152 sound familiar :p) and visit the fender GP for a health check, hoping to keep the list green...:D....

Daily Driver / general dog transport and family workhorse VW Caddy 2007 DSG 147K, pulls like a train regularly serviced, only changed a half shaft other that that its given me no trouble.
I bought it in 2011with 55K on the clock
Had to remove ABS pump and module, bit of a faff its located right under the bulkhead so as usual you need to be a gynocologist with small hands and xray vision to get to the bugger, then refitting the willfuly disobedient lines just want to cross thread, but heyhoe nay drama, flicked on the A team theme tune and set about it will a couple of roll ups an esperesson and the dogs standing by for inspection.
I sent the unit off to ECU testing, who pulled blinder and rebuilt it,and rtned it within 3 days, fitted it this arvo all good,

Did a Diag bleed via VCDS, but was on my own, so buddy arrives tomorrow am to lend a hand. Pedal is hard but the old fluid was black,
Its been standing with ABS module removed for a month so i want to fully flush the lines with fresh dot 5.

Then later in the afternoon I am doing a transmission flush on the Merc SL which should be fun, but we do love a bit of car play...

Fluid leak OSR.
Turns out it was the Stub to Axle gasket dripping diff oil onto the wheel, thought it was brake fluid at first cos it was clear.
Then my buddy swears blind its a hub seal, even bet me a Tenner ;), I was not so sure disc was sopping wet, brake pads are toast, and on removal stub axle threads buggered, so now waiting for a new stub axle.
The hub seal was perfect and not a speck of grease coming through.
My mate did make me laugh, tried to claw back his loss by saying 'told you you would have to change the hub seal' -----did he foook! nice try but no cigar.....:D
So this afternoon he was despatched to the shop to get us coffees and cake, told him to use the tenner he owes me, well i could not go, me truck only has three legs :rolleyes:, so we sat munching cake and coffee and watched the rain......

12V Magnetic Charging quick connector, weather proof, has magnetic contacts behind the socket.
Going to wire up a CTEK charger plug to it, you can buy one pre made but im not paying £47  for somthing i can make myself in two mins lol, the acutal CTEK lead is only £10, and I have a few of them.

Just got to work out were to put the socket.

CTEK Lead wired,
Socket hooked up to test rig and bench battery first, then made up the cables, used shrink wrap and self amalgamating tape for final wrap on socket rear, then bit of heat gun to weld the SA tape seam, then used a SWA boot n some silicone glue, its high enough to escape most mud n moisture but not worth risking it.
Socket Fitted and wired into battery box to battery, 0V accross socket (plug to charger is magnetic & activates contacts)
Works a treat.

Car Port today....
Started at 0830 done by 1500, me and my pal,
Cost of timber is daft, was going to build with oak posts, but too expensive now, been buying the timber bit by bit. Saving for a Bendpak 2 post lift, which will go inside, building a few rooms at the top one will have balconey 'cut-out' for the rising vehicles on the lift.
Far right end will be a store for mower and garden stuff etc.
The lift will sit behind the middle front and rear posts, plenty of room to swing around (a single reverse and re-align)
Still got the rest of the joists to fit, ( when i can afford the timber, then the rafters, felt, batten and tile.
2 course bricks between stones, then stud, OSB and feather edge.
May well close it in fully at some point, want to use one room above as an office, going to put external stairs on far right return.

Fitted Blue Sea Volt and Temp Meters today............errr due to 'reasons' lol

The volt meter is very accurate, my last was an ebay china khackaer one.
The temp meter is superb, just awaiting the sensor from the states, none in uk:mad:, So i've left the old Temp meter in situ which is another OLED, but a cheaper version. (the one that comes with the blue sea one is a low temp submersible (-40° C to 80° C), the one i need is the high temp one, measures up to 125 C. Its designed to be clamped to the exhaust / water pipe outlet on a boat to give you exhuast water temp, so perfect for lashing to my coolant hose.
Does F & C by just swapping the voltage polarity simples love it!
Its an auto dimming OLED, ( organic LED, easy to read in direct sunlight and very easy on the eye at night)

Switch flip around today,
Wanted the light bars nearer to the steering wheel, so flipped with the rear fog light.
While I was at it moved the others around as well, had to file down the locating ribs on a few of them.....

UPDATE: Very happy, with the new volt meter readings....

Ign Pos1 after 12 hours standing = 12.55v
Post Engine start and run = 13.9 rising to 14.65V (Full load = 13.88V)

After run, wait 5 mins or so then headlights on for 10 seconds to remove any suface charge
reads 12.47 and slowly climbs to 12.65- 12.69.

Compared all via my recently calibrated MEGGAR MFT ( about as good as they get) and bang on with above +/- 0.1v
Much betterer than the old one which i think just made it up as it went along, no consistency must have been made by a cat willful and total disobedience...:p

UPDATE: PS HOW THE F*X*STK can i lose a torque wrench?

So after torquing up the my other halfs car, after replacing disc n pads for her I say 'dont forget to put the locking wheel nut key in yer boot' and showing it to her in the end of the torque wrench.....AND considering the fiasco we had finding it, cos it was of course not in the little black box under the spare where i left it, but in a small yellow bag in her glove box,
Anyway how the F*&^% can she think what fitted in a small yellow bag in her glove box equates to a 4 foot long tourque wrench????

PS Thanks to S**TFIT puncture repair guys you total oxygen wasting fookwits (puncture repair she had done a few weeks back but did not tell me).

In her infinate wisdom she decided to put the WHOLE BLOODY TORQUE WRENCH in her boot..then piled the usual kids crap, scooters, kites, balls and other crap on top of it........ and 'helped' me put all the tools back in the garage cos we was late going out to meet friends, well when i say help i mean "DUMP" 2 feet inside the door of the garage.
there are no words....:mad::rolleyes:o_O

Next up is fitting a 12V Battery heater mat, you normally see them fitted to base of sumps etc.
I will power it from the CTEK charger / conditioner that will remain connected during the cold months, the matt will be a perminant install, just working out best way to fit simple 'winter-mode' switch, tempted to use a thermostat then its fit and forget, will come come on when its cold enough and when connected to the CTEK, the mat will pull between 4-7 amps depending on the size, When the ambient temperature of 0c the battery has already lost 35% at -17c over 60%
