Hi everyone, I posted a while ago about the freelander running rough below 2000 rpm, dis the maf and it runs fine, remember it?
Well, there's a few had the issue and nobody seems to have found the solution, well I have and it's nothing to do with the maf, its the egr solenoid!
I reconnected the maf and attached a vac gauge to the egr vac line, start the engine and no vac, just touching the pedal slightly and I got full vac, 10"hg, this remained right across the rev range, clearly having the egr open full bore at low revs is effectively choking the engine. I blanked the vac line at the egr and took it for a run, perfect, it runs like a good un, and obviously having the maf reconnected means I'm not running on default values so therefore should get better fuel economy.
I hear so many people saying to do away with the egr as it just fills the engine with gunk, so I think it doesn't matter, I'm not wasting money replacing the solenoid, only to blank the egr anyway, so to those running around with the maf disconnected because otherwise the car runs like crap below 2000rpm, know you know the answer, plug the maf back in and disable the egr valve.
