I finally tried the car with the MAF sensor unplugged, and it runs and drives great!
So, either the new sensor is also foobard or there is a problem that only occurs with a sensor plugged-in.
I'm opting for the first option.
Interestingly I didn't get a MIL when driving with no MAF sensor.
I'll see if I can find a genuine one!

From what I've experienced I think you have to drill a whole in this engine to get the EML on.
On the K series maybe just a tap on rocker cover will do.

Agree just the check engine part... But does get more accurate. Even live data from delphi show 4 times more info.
Head gasket also fails on Toyota rav4 which is "Japanese reliable" not to mention Vauxhalls. I have no idea why these got more attention.
I have both td4 and k, and td4 just seems better built to me. For me to call roadside assistance on the td4 I have to be very unlucky else on petrol a simple failed coil will do. I guess it's petrol vs diesel debate.
On topic, I had a hose split and removing the sensor also improved it in the exact same way. Very unlikely for a new bosch maf to fail but not impossible. Can't remember topic history but was the map sensor tested?
