My Defender TD4 2.2L (2013 model year) with currently 60,000 km has now prompted me to write my first post here. For the past few weeks, I’ve noticed a very rough engine operation. Under load and with increasing RPM, it sounds progressively rougher and there are noticeable vibrations that weren’t there before. Interestingly, this gets worse and more noticeable when the engine is warm. Other than that, there are no irregularities. Cold starts are no problem, and the engine sounds completely normal to me in that state. I’m not losing any noticeable amount of oil, there’s no loss of power, and no visible exhaust smoke. There are no error codes stored in the engine control unit.

As a precaution, I replaced the MAF sensor and the MAP sensor due to the way the engine was running. This did fix a slight jerking at low RPM, but the engine still sounds the same. I also removed the EGR valve. After ten years, it was quite dirty so I went ahead and replaced it as well. Unfortunately, that didn’t bring any improvement either.
Has anyone here experienced something similar or have any idea what else this could be?

Thanks in advance!
