Just out of interest have you ever checked the USA and Australian land rover user sites out.Have a look and you will find exactly the same comments about the Freeklander, but with more people not willing to put up with Land Rover's atrocious service. It was on the Australian site that someone suggested swapping the front wheels for the rear to eliminate the severe vibration problems with my Freeklander. This was after Land Rover tried to charge me over £2500 to change the rear diff, which they claimed was the problem (After keeping the car for nearly 2 weeks). To be perfectly honest I have heard and seen more horror stories with the Freeklander than good reports and I have to go by what I know.Maybe BMW sabotaged the design plans........flyboy2

Just because the one you bought isn't up to scratch doesnt mean that every single one will be the same
very true - but that doesn't mean there aren't design issues which mean that all Hippoos are susceptical to similar problems!

I like this forum but tend to stay away as it can be so bloody negative!
Why dont you try and resolve the issues, rather than whinge at those that try and help.

Yes there are people who have had problems with their cars on here and don't we bloody know it!!
Maybe if you tried to help, then the inbuilt design problems could be fixed.

I know it must be a gutter if you have forked out for a car that has problems but try to bear in mind that the Freelander is still the best selling of all 4x4's in the UK.
That doesnt mean it is perfect, and should be exempt from criticism.

It don't half get boring when the same people bring up the same problems over and over again
Maybe thats because the problems are raised over and over again. As I have said on numerous occasions (I Know) this forum needs a section of "Stickies" which have the common faults (and solutions) posted so that the same issues are not raised time and time again. I agree with Widget on that one, but if you are new to this forum and have a problem, sometimes the solutions and history needs to be repeated to explain properly. A typical example is the TD4 hose clogging, That would benefit from a well written "How to" with pictures and recomendations as to how often it should be carried out. This, I believe, is not subject to any manufacturers recomendations at all, but is a known issue with many vehicles.

surely it would be more productive to use this forum to get some constructive advice,
Put your money where your mouth is, and try and find solutions, like some of us are.

flog the motor for what you can and move on.
Already done - but it doesn't stop other people from having similar issues though.

Dont get me wrong I am not unsympathetic - just bored!
We all are - of paying out substantial sums of money for vehicles which are not reliable, and listening to windbags like you who think the Hippoo is perfect and aren't prepared to help resolve the design faults!
.

Sorry Mad Hat Chap

I obviously didn't make myself clear in my original post.

I wouldn't dream of saying that the car is beyond criticism - My comments refered to the constant & repetitive whinges about the same problems

On the occasions that my limited knowlege has allowed, I have tried to help in whatever way I can - I have even loaned out my Roveron Tuning box to total strangers on here to allow them to test drive the unit before buying!

As for putting my money where my mouth is?? Thats a bit harsh, I put close on 20 grands worth of money where my mouth is about 6 months ago! It might be worth bearing in mind that, without people purchasing new motors, the marque would not last very long.

Stickies? - couldn't agree more.

Thanks for calling me a windbag - I post seldomly as I rarely feel that I can have any positive input into the forum. If you are bored of my posts then I suggest that you tolerance level is a little on the low side?

Please consider that other people have opinions as well and take this post in the manner it is intended - no harm done eh:) :) :)

Actually the car was bought from a Land Rover mechanic who gave up on it.The engine blew up after the thermostat packed up and caused the head gasket to blow.I have the sevice history from Land Rover and it makes frightening reading, more like an obituary. The engine was replaced with a "modified type" (whatever that equates to)and I must admit has been faultless for 9,000 miles, but that does not excuse the rest of the car, such as Propshaft,Vicous coupling,Bearings,Radiator (actually rotted away),Vibration (changing the wheels from front to back completely cured this, after the local Land Rover dealer kept the car for 2 weeks and failed to find the fault),A/C,Rear window,Rear wiper,Sunroof, etc, etc.

I rest mi case!!! after knowing all the above, you paid money for it????

And then come on to a forum to moan cos its ****e???

We've had a catalogue of disasters over the past 2 years with this car. It's been fully maintained by LR dealers and had most of the major mechanical components replaced from engine, to gearbox and electrics.........
I thought that 'it wouldn't happen to me', only other people's Freelanders were rubbish because they hadn't looked after it, or chosen badly second hand etc. Well it has happened to me - repeatedly.

Just to remind yuz guys - it dont always happen coz yu bought a dog! Even with the best intentions, yu can still have bad luck and yes - I KNOW - it dont happen to all of them, but Widget (and I like to think, me) aint idiots - yu can go throo all the checks etc and still be unlucky.
If ya buyin one - ignore the history at your peril. http://www.reliabilityindex.co.uk/trends1.html?apc=3128339010848601

65% - not too tragic.

I did used to be in IT (for 2 months but I got bored) - so perhaps I'm improving.

VG btw Panama.

And whilst I'm on the hat topic - if you had an off-road racer it could be nothing but a Bowler, could it? ;)
