Anyone with the correct tool for this job to hold the square shaped cut outs in the portion around the outside??

I am near Reading (Berks) - happy to hire. Have an automatic and although I can remove it with the starter operated for a second or 2 with a socket on it, I need to be able to do it up again to required torque / turns.

Can you not remove the starter and wedge a large screwdriver into the ring-gear teeth and then tighten it ?
That usually is fine for all models of virtually any vehicle.

do it with a screw driver in the teeth the bolt is to hard on I know I tried but you can do it by taking the starter off and there is a "special" tool all that it is a piece of metal with a couple of hole in it you bolt one end to the fly wheel and the other to the gearbox . I did make another special tool but it did not go into production I need to dig it out and do something about it.

i got my mobile truck tyrefitter mate to undo mine with his inch drive air gun...only way i could get mine undone....and i tightened it with my h/d 1/2 inch airgun and it never fell off and it was better to get off the other 2 times when the new pullies i bought failed.
 
So - cheap option as suggested above, but I'd already been to my local tyre fitter. He lent me a 22mm impact air driver, took a fair bit or releasing, but it didn't rotate the engine. Then I tightened it by hand and drove carefully 1/2m home. There is no keyway and so some pulley slip may occur. I saw the ign light flash and steering was a bit stiff for a while and then it retightened itself !! Easily removed at home, changed seal, belts, pulley and torqued to 74ib ft by hand. Drove back to tyre centre to do the 60 degrees, 60 degrees, 30 degrees bit - all marked up with tippex beforehand. Simples and for cost of a few beers !!!
Car nice and quiet now. Don't overlook the pulley if your engine is noisey as there were no signs, a few metal flakes by the pulley, but when removed it looked perfect. I put paint on the slide areas before changing it and they got worn off in seconds of running and so I concluded pulley. Hope this helps anyone else. Thanks for all the input.
 
my first pulley was from ebay with a 2 year warranty...lasted 18 months...rang the seller and he gave me a full refund...i think from our conversation mine was not the first problem.
bought my 2nd from rimmers,lasted 7 days and fell apart(britpart)...then bought the expensive one from rimmers and so far its ok ...but then again its been a non runner since last year so its not got many miles on it yet.
 
Just fitted my first pulley at 200k, just waiting for the holding tool to arrive so I can tighten the blighter back up. Hope this one lasts as long as the original.
