So I bet im starting a new thread while the problem is covered on some other thread, i apologize.

Runnin Freelander 1 TD4 automatic 2001 427k in metric

Pulley, crankshaft. Replacing the crankshaft pulley from the old part to the new aftermarket part did not correct observed vibrations from the vehicle, could slightly change the vibration and, after replacement, developed an engine knock. Attempt to tighten according to the instructions 100NM, 60' 60' (could not tighten 30' more). When starting cold aux belt flaps, with a peculiar metallic clackety sound, calms down after the machine warms up or is revved a little bit. The engine knocks quite manly when the machine is under stress while driving. What went wrong? In general, the accessory part apparently disreputable compared to the OE quality. Could be the cause of the problem? Or are those tightening moments in that part very important, would it be enough to complete the tightening? Could I have done it wrong? This repair introduced me to angle torques and at least tried to use it accordingly.
The old part was not that bad, soft rubber and hair fractures on the outer edge of rubber still in one piece. Thinking of putting it back.
Or second, take the car to brand workshop. For hopes they do it fast and willingly and in best case have the parts in storage already, but the prices are crushing my baals there.


What ****es me off there is some guy on youtube who just swaps old part to new one with electric impact drill with no angle torques, old bolt and makes it look super easy.

Aem no mechanic. But one day I'd like to go to professional electric car workshop and tell the guy at the counter: "My car has a problem, It makes this constant noise when I press the pedal.... vroom vroom"

There's no guarantee that the crankshaft doesn't fail in the future. Unfortunately the cast iron crankshaft on these engines has been known to fail, sometimes because of the incorrect pulley bolt removal technique, and other times the crankshaft just breaks.

Maybe yours has broken, which would explain the clattering noise with a new pulley?

Use a Corteco crankshaft pulley, and nothing else ... where do you find your crankshaft pulley ?

Ebay for god sake. It's a RIDEX pulley. I know this mistake now, but found out after making it.
What I first thought whats going on was that the pulley is not perfectly aligned, making a slight bigger turn that whats it is supposed to.
But there seems to be no other way of installing the part. Now I seek confidence to change it to genuine, hoping its not crankshaft like nodge suggested.

What Nodge68 suggested, if crankshaft is broken, how to diagnose it?
While removing the pulley bolt I might have slipped my pulley hold tool twice or so and it sure took some force to take off. But while doing it I think I did not feel anything special happening outside of usual tight bolt removal procedure.
 
Good news. Impact guns can break crankshaft.

Worth putting a socket on the bolt and seeing if there is any free movement in the crank though.
 
Will check for possible play tomorrow, but I think how I left it yesterday and wrapped it up to drive today the pully turns when bolt is turned. Its tight but not the last 30' degrees. Nice to see someone else likes their Epsom Green freeelandy, I love it also.
Just looking forward to confirm (hopefully) that its just the ebay pulley fault or loose bolt. Since I'd hate to wait for a Hippo ride again. Thank you guys for fast reply by the way. I've read a lot of your posts about many things and they have been helpful. Accordingly I also know that asking for diagnose through internet is lottery in many ways, i don't expect anything completely conclusive.
