Hello
I have recently bought a late 2003 Freelander TD4 Auto.
The 'box works properly with the selector in the left plane - PRND4321, but does not recognise being moved from D to the right "Manual/Sport" plane. Instead, when the lever is moved to the right, "D" mode remains, and manual selection froward and backward movements are ignored.
There is wear in the selector lever somewhere, because the detent between D and 4 is very weak - so when moving from Park to Drive, it is very easy to overshoot and end up in 4 instead.
Therefore, my gut feeling is that the reason that the right plane of the selector does not work is down to a fairly simple problem - something like a microswitch not being triggered - rather than a fundamental problem with the gearbox.
Can anyone suggest (btw, Google cannot) where I might start when trying to diagnose this problem?
Alistair
