Hi,
Have had my TD4 for three years with no engine problems at all. For the last two days it has developed a problem where it will not rev past 3,000 rpm. Up to 3,000 it is fine, no difference at all, It pulls really well but then it seems to feel like a misfire. It doesn't matter what gear or incline. It even does it in neutral. There is no smoke or whistling noises.

It is due a service soon but I am wondering if this is something more serious? I have searched the forums related to MAF sensors etc... but they all seem to be low rev problem related. Any ideas will be greatly received!
I know I can drive it without going to 3,000 revs b4 anybody posts that one!

That sounds similar to the "limp home mode" of the VX world. I would suggest getting a diagnostic done mate.

Mick.

For info:

Diagnostics gave no error codes. The inline fuel pump (O/S/R Wheelarch)was the culprit. The garage struggled at first but luckily it gave up all together so became obvious.

hi i have much the same problem with my freelander auto when its cold it drives fine then when at running temp 300 revs puts management light on and it goes into limp mode there was a new inline pump fitted about 2 year ago because it was leaking recently this pump sounded noiseir than usuall AA put it on diagnostic meter no fault code can you tell me if symptoms are simillar to yours thanx hi just to update was working at the car today and inline fuel pump stoped working light on dash was on checked to see if it was getting power it was so put pump onto battery and it started to work when connected back in car would go so long and cut out would not bleed system bought new pump fitted it and car seems to be cured hope this helps anyone else in same position

sounds like low pressure pump has failed. if you disconnect low pressure switch in fuel line then try it it should rev all the way up

dont leave it disconnected as it is there to stop high pressure fuel pump from runnung dry

if yours is an older freelander the switch is by fuel filter in engine bay if a newer one it is in the fuel line on left hand wheel arch

Hi I have a TD4 and It completely lost power and cut out. RAC came out and sprayed easy start and I was able to get home slowly. It then would not start and I have taken it to mechanic. It starts on the key but you cannot take it over 2500 revs, it shuts down. He has found some diesel within the turbo air pipe which he is concerned about but does not thinks the turbo is faulty. He is not a 4x4 mechanic but I have to wait until tuesday for him to pop it into LR dealers. Any ideas anyone please.
