TD Defender vs Intercooled TDI

Good afternoon All,

A local garage have a F reg defender in pretty decent conditon up for 2k with 12 months MOT and 6 months Tax

It has a tow pack and is green.

Its the 2.5 Turdo Disel but non intercooled

What is the crack on this engine, I need it to tow 1.2 tons on the motorway comfortably. what do you all think? is a tdi in a whole new league or will i not notice?

The TDi is in a different league, both in terms of power and economy.
However, many TD owners are happy with theirs.

towing on motorway? TDI everytime. pick a 110 for more stability too. should be able to get a 200tdi for that money too. buy private not trade. keeps the price down.

Actually my mate has a 200tdi 110 SW on ebay right now. Its in Bristol.

Looking on wiki power wise seems noticeable i would think

TD - 85bhp - 150ft/lb
TDI - 107bhp - 188ft/lb

The troublesome TDs probabaly haven't survived, but working them hard at high speed did not show up there best features.
I would not want to do motorway towing with one.
