90 Defender - winch & towbar

1992 (K reg) Land Rover 90 Defender 2.5 tdi

Tow bar - how. Much am. I looking for new?

Does anyone have. Link to. A full adjustable height towbar system (flange included)

I have tried ebay but can't find any for my year that have everything in.


Winch - so. I have bars already for the winch on the landy but no. Winch, I am planning on green laning in it so ideally want it powerful enough to help me out of sticky situations mainly but also help out where need locally.

What do people recommend,. I have been looking at 7000lbs winch (as gross weight of my land is roughly 6000lb), is that the correct way of thinking?

Most people would go for a 9000lbs winch.

Either one of the more expensive Warn 9500 lbs winch or one of the cheaper ( Chinese) 12500 / 13000 Lbs winch. For what you want , a 12500/ 13000Lbs - £300/ 400 winch with dyneema would work well.

Ignore all the fancy shiny ones and get yourself a Husky. Worm drive, almost indestructible, fairly cheap to get second hand, easy to service. etc. There is a reason these were fitted to the camel trophy and utility company vehicles. (link1 link2)
For the price of a cheap Chinese one new you could get one of these second hand, service it, and fit a new albrite solenoid.

For the toe system it depends what you are looking for, the dixon bate adjustable height one is a farily standard fitment and is avaiable form lots of places. e.g. Paddocks

As for toe end that play looks identical to what I. Was looking at,. Just means I'd need to find flange and electrics? Which I presume that website can provide

You'll find that most places where you get stuck will have nothing to winch off.

If you are not bothered about cost then get a new husky (link). Or the previous links I sent previously for s/h versions you will give you a far more reliable and better quality winch than the cheap Chinese rhino at the same price.

^^ this is very true. I use my winch for Other things far more than I do for recovery! If all you want it for is recovery you are far better putting it rear mounted than front anyway so you go back out rather than are pulled further in.
