My D2 is one of the middle year models without the diff lock (I’ve checked!!) and so has to reply on the TC which generally is ok but I came unstuck (or rather very much stuck) again this eve when collecting some logs from the woods with my double axle trailer on - it pretty much dug itself in and I had to be pulled out!!
The Tc didn’t seem to be doing a great deal as the wheels were definitely spinning- does anyone know at what speed the Tc starts/stops and if it’s possible to stop all wheels or if there has to be one moving?

fitting a new box with diff lock is a bit excessive and expensive at the moment so not an option for now. Just want to make sure TC is working as best as it can!

It is an effective system but you need to drive differently to a diff locked D2, to get it working. You will hear it working (grinding noise) and your TC light will flash. 3 amigos turns it off. Condition of your pads and discs makes a decent difference to its performance and fluid condition maybe.
Its only effective to a point and with a loaded twin axle trailer, many 4x4s will get stuck easily in mud. It will only brake one hub at a time I believe. What tyres are you running?

Thanks for the reply.
Tyres are grabber AT3’s (less than 3k miles on them), brakes/pads are new with the same sort of miles on them and brake fluid was changed in November when I replaced the hoses for braided ones
I replaced the abs module in jan so I know that’s working properly and the Tc did kick in a few times - just wanted to be sure I wasn’t doing anything wrong or missing anything.

If all the wheels were spinning TC wouldn't do anything/very little as the wheels have equal/simular grip. You'd still be stuck in the same car with the same tires with a centre diff lock and front and back lockers

For the TC to work well is EXTREMELY important to know how to dirve it to get the best of it which means to keep constant revs(around 2500 rpm without playing with the thorttle) in the proper gear and let it do it's job not . It kicks in above 9.4mph

Yes assuming you did as Ferry is describing, there is just a limit on what a set GG AT3s will do in the mud. They are excellent tyres, but mud will clog them reasonably easily. I think with your trailer it was just a case of too much mass, not enough grip.
A diff lock would be nice though wouldn’t it!

I also have GG ATs on my car and even with properly working CDL I had to be recovered a few months ago from wet grass (I parked on a slight slope with wet muddy grass and did not matter what I did just slipped sideways until the left back wheel finally totally stacked in mud).
To be honest I found GG ATs very nice for road but not for mud or wet grass....

here is the "budget" version of it:), surely not as robust but much cheaper and could help....
Also good on ice.

Yeah it would. Got the right car just the wrong box!! Maybe one day

I’m still running the factory 18” alloys (yes I know!!) so really need to get my ass in gear and find a set of 16” so I can put mud terrains or a set of India’s on them. It’s only really used for driving around the woods/tracks or on short camping trips so doesn’t do many real road miles a year

another thing for the list!!
