Tappets

Hi all.

Had a new head gasket and head skim done a few weeks ago. Now have very noisy tappets. They were OK before. Its not a problem from cold, just when it gets warm. Is this something I can fix or should I take it back to the garage?

BTW, they said they kept the tappets soaked in oil.

take it back ,keeping them in oil while not hurting them doesnt keep them in order or fix worn ones ,which will often show up on disturbing them you may be able to negotiate good price as they where last to touch them

Any idea on price for new tappets and labour ?

£2 pattern each £7.50 genuine each, £200 care has to be taken to seal but not block oil ways

My old ford cvh was a bugger for this ... everytime i touched head ... tappets noisey......always ended up putting new ones in. I think micro dirt gets in fine galleries.
You could try Ametech Restore-Oil Additive .... neverr tried it myself but have heard nothing but good reports...

Maybe you just need to have the valve clearances reset!! The cam followers aren't hydraulic.

The CVH had hydraulic cam followers.

Yep!!!!!! just made a dick of me sen, somehow I thought we was talking about a Tdi, just noticed it's a Hippo.

Took it back to the garage last week. Collected it today. They did an engine flush. Brill. No noise now. Even better than before the head work was done. Happy days.
