Hi all,

My tailgate window mech has been making some grumbling noises recently and today it got stuck half way. It would raise about an inch then stop and drop an inch. I assumed that the cables had gone inside and luckily I had a spare set in the shed.

I took the whole assembly out and checked the cables and they were all fine. I plugged it back in and had it on the boot floor so I could shut the tailgate door and operate it through the key. It worked fine. I rechecked it and then set about refitting it. I then tried to operate it without the window in place and found the source of the problem - the drivers side window holder was scraping on the back of the door. On closer inspection I could see that it's been rubbing for a while. I adjusted the large threaded bolt with torx head inner bit to pull the runner back in towards the inside of the door. Tried again and it was better. Adjusted some more and now it is free and goes up and down properly. However it seems like it's very tight at the top because of the bottom of the runner being pulled in - the motor is having to make more effort for the last couple of inches.

Is this anything to worry about? I don't want the extra force to snap a cable, or worse still, shatter the glass.

Has anyone else had this before and is there a way of doing something to it to help or should I just live with it? To note, there was some duck tape over the corner of the membrane right where that adjuster is so I guess someone has had a look at it before...No obvious damage or anything around that area either, could be a possibility that someone reversed and hit the wheel against something like a wall and has squashed the door in a bit?

Cheers
