Tailgate stuck

Hi All
I have a freelander 1 td4 ES on a 2000 plate, and as the title says my tailgate has decided not to open!!!! Which is a real pain as this is my works vehicle.
Once I get the do it card off if necessary, what do I need to check and can I operate the door if I disconnect the solenoid which has been suggested us the problem ???

Does the window drop an inch okay or not.
Does the tailgate door handle feel floppy or stuck at the open.
Can you hear the sound of the solenoid working open and closing.

Yes to all saxavordian window drops and when I press handle you can here it clicking away.

Clicking is relay, motorised noise is solenoid.

If only clicking it is the solenoid that is not working. Follow instructions in above link and operate solenoid rod to release.
