Hi all, this is my first post so please be gentle with me:)

I am having a problem with the wifes Freelander (its a year 2000 2litre diesel). The tailgate glass won't drop, rear wiper not working also heating element not working.

Got no noise coming from back end when trying it, I'm not that mechanically minded but looked at fuses but cannot see any probs, what should I try next?

Any help will be gratefully received.

:welcome2: try the search at top of page should help you out

Thanks Andrew, very swift reply:)

Had a gander and as there is no sound etc, wondered if it could be the relay? Trouble is I have no idea where I would finf it so next question is.....

Where do I find the relay please peeps?

I'm sure it must be a relay problem as I have nothing at all going to the tailgate, no wipers, window, heater etc.

Have checked out the Rave CD (excellent item isn't it) and looked at the wiring schematics on there and totally blown my mind, can find the tailgate relay on the diagram but where in heavens name is it physically on the car?

I had exactly the same symptoms...

I ended up removing the black plastic rear window surrounds and this allowed the tailgate to open. (with the glass in its highest position)

I then took the rear window out and stripped and rebuilt the mechanism. I tested the motor before removing and this was ok. The problem was the cabling. I slackened the cable by removing the spring clips and worked by hand.

After refitting it has worked perfectly and did not cost anything to fix.

Perhaps worth a try before buying any replacement parts.

Regards,

Steve

None of the above will operate if the vehicle thinks the glass is open.
You need to calibrate the rear window. If it wont move then its likely that your window regulator is stuck (as in my case see last post)

Done a search but cannot find how to calibrate the rear window, found loads of mentions of it but not actually how to do it:confused:

To calibrate:

Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, then after 20 seconds or so reattach.

The window should lower (assuming the regulator is good). You then enter vehicle and close using the switch beneath the radio.

I think that your problem is the window regulator - it sounds like it is stuck to me and is telling the vehicle that the tailgate glass is open (hence no wiper etc)

Thanks Steve, will give it a go

This could be interesting, if the problem is the wire loom or the limit switch then he's not going to get the window to stay shut again. Wait for that post. :(

Right, things move on.......

Tried Steves suggestion and its still not working, however I can now hear the window motor when I try the switch. Also when I press the switch its making a high pitched bleep.

The horn used to sound when I locked the car telling me the window was open but its now stopped doing this.
