alarm goes off sometimes. think its the tail gate door as inside light comes on and dash warning light shows door open.open and close tailgate and spray wd4o around lock all fine for so long, this keeps happening from time to time. any ideas please

It'll be one of the door open sensors playing up. You can put the CCU into test mode, which might help find the sensor that's causing it. The sensor is part of the lock, but a couple of folks have repaired them. Off hand, I can't remember how to put the CCU into test mode, but someone will be along that does remember.

thanks nodge will hopfuly wait for there reply as i dont know myself how to test mode this also, thanks again mate

Here is Hippo's self test thread.
Self test mode.

The CCU can be put into Self Test Mode to enable the inputs and outputs from the CCU to be tested for correct functionality without the need for TestBook (T4). To put the CCU into self test mode the ignition should be off with the vehicle unlocked and unarmed and the following sequence must be followed:

1. Insert the key and turn the ignition 'on'
2. Press and hold the rear fog switch 'on'
3. Turn the ignition 'off'
4. Turn the ignition 'on'
5. Release rear fog switch within four seconds of ignition 'on'

Note: When turning mine on, I turned the key to the second click, when the electric powers up. Also it took about 1.5 seconds for me to complete steps 1 to 5. Sometimes it doesn’t go into Self Test Mode first time. Not sure why. Think it’s due to getting the correct speed of the above entry steps.

On successful entry into the Self Test Mode the sounder will sound for 0.8 seconds and the courtesy lamps will illuminate for 0.8 seconds. I think from memory the dash board alarm light will illuminate for a short period. Other dash board lamps which illuminate are = abs, engine, oil, battery and the mileage display is as normal.

When testing an input, for example a door open switch, on successful receipt of the input the CCU will sound the sounder for 0.8 seconds and illuminate the courtesy lamps for 0.8 seconds.

To exit the Self Test Mode on a Freelander 1, just switch off the ignition and it exits the test. Doesn't matter how far through the test you are, or if you've gone round the test several times. Car will then operate as normal.

Outputs are tested in sequence using the CDL Central Door Locking “lock” option switch to progress through the outputs. A CDL unlock request repeats the last test. Outputs are either operated continuously until the CDL lock switch is released, or operated in a pulsed fashion until the next operation of the CDL lock switch. Output formats are described in the list below:

Output / Test type

Rear fog lamps - Continuous – interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – fog lights on

Door Lock - Pulsed – interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds - all doors lock – can be opened with internal handle

Door Superlock - Pulsed – interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds - all doors lock – can’t be opened with internal handle as this is the dead lock option

Door Unlock - Pulsed – interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds - all doors unlock

Front wiper - Continuous - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds every time the wiper goes to the rest position

Alarm LED - Continuous - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – alarm LED on the dash lights up continuously

Volumetrics - Continuous - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – I assume this is an internal self test. Not sure if there’s any way to test the volume sensing. I couldn’t get mine to do anything.

Horn - Pulsed - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – horn sounds

BBUS (battery backed up sounder) - Pulsed - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – I think another noise should be made here but not sure.

Heated rear window - Pulsed - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – rear window heater button illuminates – rear window may heat up, but I didn’t check for this

Tail window down - Pulsed - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – rear window drops fully

Tail door actuator - Pulsed - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – rear door unlocks – may need to repeat a second time by using the CDL open option to repeat this, to get the door to open so you can pull it open. The tailgate door handle won’t activate the tailgate release during Self Test Mode.

Tail window up - Pulsed - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – rear window rises fully – only happens if the tailgate door is closed

Rear wiper - Continuous - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – only if tailgate door is closed

Hazard lights - Continuous - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – both green indicator arrows illuminate on the dash board

Door open warning lamp - Continuous - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – red door open lamp illuminates on the dashboard

Seatbelt warning lamp - Continuous interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – red seatbelt warning lamp illuminates on the dashboard

Handbrake warning lamp – Continuous - interior light and sounder on for 0.8 seconds – red handbrake lamp illuminates on the dashboard

If you continue to press the CDL lock switch, the tests will now repeat from the top of the list. You can do this as many times as you like.
Hope it helps.
