HI I have a synergy box i filled the tank to the brim the setting i have on the box is 9, with both switches on,the switch i have on the landrover dash was set in the middle position, i refilled to the brim the mileage i had was 206 miles and it took 28.9 litres to fill again to the brim which results in 33 mpg which i find quite dissapointing, and i didnt drive excessively fast averaging 55 to 60 mph going to try another setting i wondered if anybody else had experince of different settings.regards Martin.

have tried every setting .. over 4 years
get virtually the same mpg regardless .. average 40 mpg.
( based on daily 60 mile commute route )

btw: have you got rid of the egr valve ??
if not .. then do so ..
be worth a few mpg.

I found having the Synergy on 10 gave a reduction in Mpg, dropping it to 27Mpg. I'm currently on 9 with the MAF compensation off. It runs well, has plenty of power and torque and returns an average 29.7Mpg at the last fill. Mine is an SE auto running large AT tyres.
That's a huge improvement on my D3's 21Mpg.

It appears to me that the biggest factor dropping MPG on the TD4 (probably most motors) is the Auto box. In general people running manual TD4s are getting up around 40mpg whilst those with autos are running down near 30mpg. Obviously the engine needs to be "running properly" for comparative tests as well as the types of roads etc, but I recon the auto box around town will drop mpg by 20% easy.

My L Series running at around 40mpg was an improvement over my D1 at 14mpg :) I get 3 times the distance per $!

Pretty accurate GG. The other factor that affects Mpg on the TD4 is engine temperature. If the thermostat has stuck open, the engine never exceeds 70°C. This really affects the Mpg, by probably another 20%. My SE auto was down to ~24 Mpg while the thermostat was goosed. Fitting the inline stat mod has published the Mpg to a shade under 30 Mpg. I could probably get better Mpg if I pottered about, but I don't do that. I drive it like it's an everyday car which includes a blast down 2 miles of duel carriageway when it's still warming up.

Hi Martin,
Regardless of what the adverts say - there is no way that the 'synergy' unit will ever give you greater MPG.
It is a fallacy.
With a normally functioning vehicle, the only thing that controls improved mpg on that particular vehicle is your right foot and driving technique.
Joe :)

What was in the D1 Grumpy ? was it the Rover V8 perchance ?
Superb engine but thirsty as feck.
The RV8 injected unit was ok in my TVR 350i, but that was a very light car compared to a D1.
My mate had a V8 disco - I presume a D1 and had it converted to LPG - cost him about 1500 squids - bl00dy crazy as it made jack difference in reality and then the government upped the price of LPG as well.
Lovely motor - if you had a lovely wallet.... :)

btw, with my L series - mixed motorway at around 120/130kph and town - about 50:50 - I get 7 L/100km (a tad over 40mpg) - it seems constant.
I usually measure it over a few thousand km as less is not really a true representation.

As many have said - don't use cr&p cheapo supermarket diesel. I dont use the super duper stuff - just a local and respected REPSOL garage with good fuel. - they only have regular and green (green is agricultural and not available to us mere mortals without a nod and a wink.
