Hey there, i own a hard-top 90 and i am looking into converting it into a truck cab (or 'pick-up') I was wondering what the benefits would be of this? Also if there was anything i would need to know to make the conversion?
Thank you, Miles

Unless you need the open back to carry large objects that won't fit through the back door there are very few benefits from my experience except like Dr evil said it warms up quicker. That said a home made bulkhead or curtin would do the same thing and you keep the ability to lock things in the back and they won't bounce out while driving!

keep the hard top as the seat wont go back as far with a truck cab, unless you dont mind been squashed in. changed my truck cab to hard top for that reason, its got loads more room now.

Got a truck cab love it to bits god knows why totally impractical for keeping things secure. I got some large ammo boxes bolted to the tub tops and a bloody great tool box all padlocked up, rubber mat secured in and 1/2 dozen lashing points to secure things down when needed, i looked at a cover for the tub but they cost a bloody fortune out of chequer plate and i cannot make one just a mere mortal!! Got a canvas cover from Sams trim which does the job but fills with bloody water in the rain. Cab warms up lovely as well which is always a bonus. I did try a hard top back but soon swapped back its just not the same fun:D:D:D:D:D:D

Thats the main reason i want to change mine to a hardtop, as well as I will be able to keep more stuff in it

Totally agree - they are bad enough as a hardtop,as a truckcab they are horrible.
200/300 Disco is much better than all the fenders....
Heater works,seats more comfy,less draughty,better gearing,cheaper - need I go on ?

Just don't put anything in the boot.....it might fall through the hole where the boot floor used to be

An 8.9ltr big block Ford motor eventually killed the boot flooor of my work 300 Disco - but its not a great deal to replace it..... Funny thing is it can still carry 5/7 peeps or tow the same a cold, noisy, slow Defender.....

But twice as much welding to do come mot time!

Yeah sorry eightinavee, people look at defenders and say "I've always wanted one of those" they look at 200/300 Disco's and say "Can't you afford a newer one"

Defenders all the way baby....

Funny thing is I've had them all, driven and fixed them all,can afford any of them.I really dont care what other people think,I just do what suits me.
It does amuse me how people are willing to put up with being cold, uncomfortable and deafened - just because they think their truck looks good...

Go for a king cab. Best of both worlds.
