Hi

Recently my sunroof made those terrible cracking noises from the motor on my Freelander. I thought now it will cost me a fortune to get the sunroof fixed. But actually the only thing needed was to tighten the three screws the motor is mounted with. So I was very happy :). But when I tested the sunroof the feature with pressing the butting one time, the sunroof tilts, pressing the button again it opens completely didn't work that well anymore. Actually the first press ends up with the sunroof opened three quarters or something like that. So has anyone figured out how the timing is configured, because I'm really puzzled here...

Best regards

Boelle

You will get help if you go to the "introduction section" rather than simply coming on and asking for help straight away. It's forum decorum.

Hi

It's not like I simply come asking stuff without having searched the entire Internet for clues. But even though I found many sunroof issues I only found one thread in another forum regarding an issue similar to mine, but with no answer. So I took the liberty to ask here, as my earlier experience told me that people on this site is very experienced and helpful. But maybe I have searched incorrectly...

Regards

Boelle

usually when it makes those cracking sound it is the cables seizing a bit and you will ware the cog on the motor if you take it off you will see the middle of the cog worn down a bit

Your totally right. It has been worn a little. What do you recommend I do. Is there a magic trick :) Hope I don't need to buy a new motor, they are terribly expensive..

the lr stealer said to pack it out but you can not do that you can squeeze where the cables run ,in a bit but really you need to grease the cables and runners a bit ,but you might need new cables

I'll try and clean and lube it, and if that doesn't do the trick I'll change the cables and X fingers. Thanks for your help :)

When you have stopped it slipping, the RAVE manual explains how to set up the timing correctly. Also - see my other posts for details of the relay box in the roof lining and a circuit for the tilt stop electrics - if you're interested ! Andrew

Another Freelander repair weekend has passed. This one I focused on my faulty sunroof. I actually got it working again. I bought a repair kit on eBay which replaces most of the plastic parts in the opening mechanism + a new cogwheel for the motor. SUCESS it now works. Ok the glassmount was pretty rusty, but nothing a pound of black Hammerite couldn't cover . Now I'm left with only one tiny issue. After timing the motor following the RAVE manual, I suddenly don't have the tilt stop option anymore .. you know the one where only the back of the sunroof opens. If I keep the button pressed the sunroof just opens completely. Well doesn't matter that much, I can live without it, but if anyone has any clues please let me know.

Hi Christian,

The answer to your timing issue is answered in RAVE manual as referenced above. Basically, from memory, hand wind to tilt, drop motor, power till it stops, reengage motor !

Hi Andy

I did follow the RAVE-procedures thoroughly, and the roof runs smoothly, but the minimum tilt function isn't there. I'll have to give it another go the upcoming weekend.
