can you fit the head / topend from a tdi on to a td bottom end? sure i heard once that you could, but he may have been mad! something about the same block ? just a thought on a sunday morning whilst trying to think of an excuse to go to the shed.
bring on the derisory comments i can take it:)

mainly just coz its there, and wondering if its been done. plus if its possible then you get rid of the problems of the td head and the ability to use the tdi intercooler and manifolds.
iv got the complete head sitting in the shed and its been bugging me for ages seeing as my td is healthy etc be a quick job if you could just bolt it on. like i say its just a question as i dont know if its possible.

The TDi blocks are based on the earlier 19J block, but they are not the same. The TDi block has extra strengthening to cope with the stresses of more power. I also think (think mind) that either some of the water, or oil, or both galleries are in different locations on the cylinder heads.

TDi heads are ofcourse alloy, and I think based on a different cast to the earlier cast iron heads.

The Piston tops are also a totally different shape, so I suspect it won't work very well.
