guys need bit advice serviced td5 defender yesterday putting sump plug back in didn’t want to do up , it’s in fully but not tight , got a very slight weep , question is what to do ? Can it be retreaded ie a helicoil or insert put in ? Is it a new sump pan? Or is it a bodge as inepoxy or metal weld bung in permanently and buy one of those oil suction machines to change oil in future ? Don’t know how this happened as normally so carefull using torque wrench Cheers guys

You could metel weld a reducer into the sump and use a smaller or even a larger or same size bung,
Something like this. You can hold the adapter steady with a spanner while undoing the bung next time. You may have to cut the reducer down a little so it does not form a raised lip in the sump and hold oil back or used a spacer washer to stop it going too far in.

you got the copper washer on it. or tefflon tape on the thread

I had a similar issue with a VW sump, I got a kit off fleabay that had 1mm oversize plugs and a thread cutter (tap), you re-cut the thread with the sump in situe and fit the larger plug.
I don't know what a TD5 sump is made from, but clearly you need to ensure that there is enough metal around the hole to go 0.5mm larger all around.

Alloy sump. I have done that too, not on a Land Rover. And it should work.

As the alloy thread is always going to be a little tender, you could try putting a valve in, like these:

Seems a bit pricey to me, so I've not bought one, but it means you can use the valve rather than stress the threads every time. I believe the TD5 thread is a 16mm x 1.5 in standard form, but there's enough meat there so you could go larger if necessary.
