Strange noise

Ref Freelander 2005 TD4 Facelift.
When starting car after a few minutes say cleaning of ice from screen. There a strange mowning sound for a half minute like pressure being lost or somthing vacuuming up. The cars not moving engine running and in park.
Any body had the same and knowes what it is?

Fuel Burning Heater.

Under an ambient temperature of 4 Deg C (I think) the FBH kicks in to warm up the engine quicker and provide warm air within the cabin quicker.

The system takes a very small amount of diesel fuel from the system and , as the name suggests, burns it to produce heat. You can buy accessories that allow you to remotely turn on the FBH without the engine running so warming up the vehicle before starting it up. The FBH exhausts forward of the front passenger side front wheel. Sometimes you get quite a lot of smoke as well as noise. All this can also go on for quite some time after the car has been stopped and turned off so nothing to worry about there.

Its all part of the winter pack that I think included the heated screen and mirrors.
