strange: cruise control problem?

hi all
cruise control used to work great, then it suddenly would not.
all pipes replaced, blow down the long one going in to car, solid(no leak)
blow down towards the round thing(near the tee piece) just blows straight through?
after blowing down this one, cruise control works just one time, then after reset, nothing.
i can remember that for the first 3 years i had the car i left the motorway switch on permanantly, then after reading the manual found out that you were not supposed too, so i now only switch it on when i am going to use the cruise control,
any suggestions?

commun problem ... but i lost the orange light within the swicth too ... it's not coming on !

yours is probably power related mine seems to be vacuum related

I've only ever played with the cruise control on my classic bu tyou could try getting at the vacuum pump and then running a ground and power lead to it. I can't remmeber which way riound the thing works but you should be able to hear relays/solenoids clicking and also get the pump to run. You should be able to find a circuit diagram on RAVE.

If you can do this, you can check that
1 - the pump works
2 - the valves work
3 that the bellows hasn't got a hole in it.

If all that works and you have power to the master switch you then need to look at the steering wheel switches and spiral cassette - that can be a right pain. if all that checks out you may need to start looking for a replacement cruise control ECU.

Hope that gives you some clues.

Hi, i had similar issues with my cruise control a while back, found a thread on here that suggested that if BOTH brake light bulbs are blown or not contacting properly, that as they are in the power circuit for the cruise control it could give rise to the symptoms you are experiencing. In my case Both had gone, replaced them and all working fine since.

did yours not tell you on the dash, that you had a bulb failure or two?
both of mine work properly, and no warnings

further tests today, revealed that, if you disconnect the tee peice and suck and blow down the short pipe to throttle linkage diaphragm, all works well(revs change up and down, and stay when held suction)
suck or blow down third pipe, to what must be the compressor goes straight through,
does this mean that my compressor seal or non return valve is worn out?

I don't know, but would suggest you get some wire and stick power and ground on the thing, I'm fairly sure the valves are elctrically controlled. Sorry I can't be more specific but it was about 2 years ago when I had problems on the Classic. I am assuming that the systems are fundamentally the same.

yes it clicks when you press the left button for setting the speed
