Storing tyres - an aged lady's question

I've just had my 'winter' AT's taken off and my 'summer' road tyres put back on my D2 but what is the best way to store the spare ones - on end or flat on top of each other? The tyres are on their own wheels. Sorry about another tyre question but although it might seem obvious to you it isn't to me!!!!!!
 
After spending £500 on them only 2000 miles ago in order to help me negotiate the snow/ice etc. during the last winter (which never came!) I most certaily will wrap the in specially made cosies - I've nearly finished knitting the third one!!
Many thanks for your swift reply. I just wish I was 50 years younger so as I could join in with all the activity but I do enjoy driving my Landy and hope to do so for a good few years yet!

Horses for courses. I only drive on roads and the Michelin Latitudes do seem to be a bit quieter and more economical on long, fast motorway runs. It could, of course, be my imagination!!!!! On them, I average 33.5 miles to the gallon generally, although doing 70+ for hours on end on British and French motorways does make it rather more thirsty and the Disco, like its owner, is getting very long in the tooth now.

Yeah I cant hear tyre noise over the engine so it doesn't bother me much plus they're very grippy. Fuel economy wise I stopped worrying about that a long time ago………its a landrover
 
I don`t store tyres on rims or off rims flat on top of each other, I store them on end, slightly over-inflated if on the rim, and cover them. I`ve had a couple of bad experiences with the bead coming off the rim on tyres stored with a fair amount of weight bearing down on the side wall. Flat spotting from being stored on end soon disappears. I`ve often wondered about storing tyres on rims just off the ground on a scaff pole through the wheel centres but I can`t convince my wife we could pass it off as a modern sculpture.
 
Definately keep them out of direct sunlight as they will dry up and crack. I have a set of wheels and tyres stacked in the corner of my shed with cardboard covering the windows.
 
Update. I have just put them to bed lying on top of each other, two and two. They are now stored in a pitch black, dry container storage unit with a wooden floor so I hope they are happy. It is possible that my Disco2 with over 205,000 miles on the clock, will be pensioned off later in the year and as the dealer px will not be as sentimental about 'im as I am I may be looking to sell on said, almost new, AT's so I must look after them properly!

It is a nasty thought but as I am totally incapable of repairing it myself and have to rely on my excellent mechanic and that means money. My problem is that I dislike things that don't work as they should so must get any necessary work done straight away and I am a believer that the replacement parts should be LR originals as the car was designed to work that way and that means more money!
Not rich, not poor, but stupid!!!! But I do love my Disco, after all, we've been together for almost 12 years.
