I've been using a piece of wood across the wheel arches, in my 110 csw, with plastic boxes underneath. However, I would like to develop something a bit more sophisticated yet do not want to part with my hard eaned cash. I'm sure that there are numerous people who also feel this way.

Therefore I would like to get all the best ideas in one place.

I found this link:
Post up your drawer/storage system - Expedition Portal Forum

Could we build something similar?

Agreed - my aim is to make a good quality drawer for under £50.

I've bought a damaged army under bed locker (lid is seperated from the piano hinge) for a tenner. The sheet of 1/2" ply stands me at twenty and I'm off to find some roller bearing runners.

It'll probably not look as good as one of the chequer plate ones available from the big suppliers but it will be as strong and cost a fraction of the price.

I'll sort some pics out.

Anyone made a cooker housing for the back door?

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best. Instead of Ali Drawers, which are quite heavy, I have plastic boxes under a tight fitting ali shelf, and that works very well.

I forgot to photograph my storage system before I took it out, but you can see it at 7:05 in this video:

That looks really good fun - did you have a good time?

Did you make the cooker housing yourself?

It was an absolute blast, can't wait to do another one. There are seven parts to that vid if you have an hour to kill

I bought the cooker housing, it's really nicely made, but then I wasn't really on a tight budget.

Rich was on a budget, and did this (it worked just as well as mine) :

The first solution to rear storage was a piece of plyboard screwed onto 3x2" battons on the wheel arches. This allowed for two army style containers to slide in and out whilst leaving the remainder of kit in the back.

Then I bought an ex-army under bed locker. It had gone loose around the piano hinge and the rear section of the lid had started to seperate. Bargain at £10.

I removed the lid and cut the remainder flush. Then removed the un-wanted furniture.

Using the bits I'd cut off I constructed the frame, allowing 1/2" either side of the drawer to fit a set of 45kg ball bearing hinges, from B & Q at £15. This was fiddly and time consuming.

Once the drawer was fitted and the operation checked the right hand side was screwed in place.

I've set the front of the drawer back 5mm in order to cover it with a piece of chequer plate when I find a suitable piece.

All in £45

Original plyboard £20
Hinges £15
Locker £10
The pieces of 3x2" were free out of a skip - just needed to remove the plaster board nails and smooth them down.

Once the front receives a chequer cover the remainder will either be painted or covered in some sort of sound proofing.

Well happy

Thanks mate, I'll post some more pics when it's finished. Hopefully, I'll pick a nice piece of chequer plate up at the next show to put on the face of the drawer.

Might even develop some kind of locking mechanism!

Cooker housing on the back door next - research in progress.........

Wow, that gives me a couple of ideas.

Starting to think about some kind of integrated shelf as well. I'll have to move the tap to the side of the door.

However, off round the highlands for two weeks on Saturday so upgrades are on hold for a while............
