Has it been recovered? There a lot of good detail there, but curious to know how you know they did it?

Any extra security on the inside, pedal locks etc?

hi ,
No extra security fitted as , it was stolen from Sheffield , a mini cooper also went on the same road the following night, the police say that the road was being targeted
Didn't have the Cctv running and usually block the car in with my wife's car.
They left the broken ignition switch , welding rod , indicator socket/bulb and all the plastic fixing studs for the panel at the back of the wheel arch all on the drive. Police had experience of this being done before
No sign yet , but suspect that I will not see it again

Hope you get it back in one piece, I'm seriously considering having a Tracker fitted to mine.

I read something about fitting an inline fuse on each indicator supply feed, would this prevent the alarm from being shorted out?

I think it would, if you have a young one you should also move the ecu from behind the wheel arch. I have seen advertised a car tazer which they say is legal , I am tempted but I suspect it would fry the electrics

The ecu isn't near the wheel arch it's fixed to the bulkhead with two 10mm nuts behind the engine impossible to reach from wheel arch

If they were in the car, why did they need to mess around in wheel arch? They could have accessed the ECU wherever it's situated.

Please don't include too much detail of how it was stolen. I know all the info is out there but we don't want to draw them a map

I disagree.. you can trust that the villains already know all the tricks, they discuss their methods on the internet too. It's us Mugs that have no idea how to protect ourselves because we don't. We need to share this sort of detail to learn how to protect ourselves.

With these thefts and the rising trend of taking defenders apart - disc lock, clutch claw and hidden kill switch doesnt seem enough - like the idea of a tracker tho, hadn't thought on that for the defender.

Can get SIM / TEXT operated trackers from around £25
Have just bought a good brand one for about £50 for use on a bit of kit we are developing, I will trial it and if I thinks its good enough I will post details.
Theory is I can set it up for movement alerts and just text it to get its exact position.
Should show up address on google maps etc.
Standby use on its own battery is 80 hrs but can be connected to cars supply.
Maybe a good standby bit of kit, but wont give details until I know its worth trying.
Back to post I hope you get a result, am sickened by these arrogant thieving b****s

+1 agreed

the people who are nicking these already know how to do it and share it with other thieves/partners , if we don't know how they are being nicked how do we protect them? im curious as to what all this is with the indicators
