stiff steering

Hi All.
Over the last week the steering has got harder and harder. it is like this lock to lock but it is stiffer in the first bit either side the strait ahead position. i have checked the fliud level and it is fine, has anyone got any ideas

maybe try bleeding the sytem, have you had to top it up? is so maybe have air in it

From what I understand. The steering pump is just like a hydraulic pump it, shouldn't need bleeding once the steering has being turned from lock to lock. It more likely to be the seals inside the pump or the pressure relief valve on it. I maybe wrong but that how it is on hydraulic's anyway.

i remember the haynes saying that if you get stiff or sloppy steering then you have to take it to landrover to get it specially tested (and then prob fixed/replaced) which could prove expensive from landrover, how much is a new/2nd hand box on ebay? or even somewhere like paddocks?

thanks for all the reply's, i have tried bleeding according to rave manual, also oiled uj's the problem seems to come and go which is weird. i think steering box is around the 200 mark from paddock but that i for a recon one. i think i will have to take it to my local garage and see what they say.

Im getting this on my rangie now.Its not temperture related is it?Although once the engines warmed it shouldnt be an issue
