Hi all,
my mate has a problem with his 2001 p38 4.0.
There is absolutely no sound from the stereo, original system.
The car has not been modified or tampered with in any way.
It's a one owner 29,000 mile car ,and apart from me having a look today, only LR have been working on it.
Car has Hk system and sat nav.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance folks
Ed

There is a good chance that the DSP amp in nsr of the boot behind the woofer has stopped working. Do a little digging and locate the unit, and check for an audio feed on both right and left channels. Ther sre lots of wires in the plug so you’ll need a wiring diagram and it’s not a job for the faint hearted, but a decent electrician should be able to do it no sweat. I use a high impedance earphone (phone ear plugs might do it) connected to each channel. If you get the normal right – left feed from radio – cassette it’s the DSP amp.

LR part number XQK100340, they’re like hens teeth to find. E-bay often has XQK 100210 available which is said to work but without satnav

Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply Rudy.
Had a dig around in there today and it all looks like it was built yesterday.
Looked for something obvious but will pull it apart tomorrow and see what we can find.

Satnav is still working .

Sounds like it's going to be the DSP amp then Rod.
Might be worth a try on removing the nav unit though. You never know.

I thought my amp was fried but it wasn't. Had no sounds for months and I was ready to rip it all out and replace with aftermarket. Removed the nav unit and it all worked perfectly. Even the steering wheel controls.

Just a thought. Wait till the red light goes out before removal.

Cheers for the info mate,it's one thing on mine i have not had to touch.......................yet!!:)

Well had the dsp amp and the sub out today, wiring and everything around it looks like it was built yesterday.
Silly question maybe, but is this system fused anywhere, apart from the obvious fuse for sat nav and radio.
The reason i ask is,every speaker except the front door tweeters are apparently powered through the amp,but these 2 are powered straight from the head unit ,and are as silent as the rest,no hiss or crackle.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the stereo.
Dunno if the satnav has audio or not ,but it's working though silent????
Thanks folks

Sorry for my stupidity folks, but can someone tell me what the black wire is here on the back of the stereo in the pics, i'm wondering if it has anything to do with the sound problem.
Also i can hear a definite click of something switching on in the amp area when stereo is switched on, and off.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply Saint, trouble is i cannot figure out how to unplug it.
Cable is marked 50ohms,don't want to pull it off and break it but tried unscrewing to no avail.

Usualy aerial leads are marked with a Resistance Value - nominaly (depending on freq.) it is 75ohms....

Must be an aerial of some description....maybe it is one of the diversity aerials...angled connection is that the CD Changer?

I swapped my cd changer for a line in input and that was part of the colored multiplug. I assumed the angled connection was the aerial connection, no idea what the smaller one is though - Looks similar to the GPS aerial that runs into the satnav unit in the boot...

I was thinking Angled was Aerial...but looked very large to me...but as you say looks Aerial or GPS Aerial like....

No mention in RAVE that I can see either

EDIT:

Saying that it does say '2 aerial leads'.....as attached

angled is aerial.

small black lead is sat nav. its the feed from the sat nav unit in the right hand side of the boot. disconnect it and no sat nav.

if you pull the drive unit out you will find the same end on the back of that unit.

Hi all, just a small update.
Finally got time to have another look at the stereo on the car.
made a wee test speaker with thin pins on the end of the wires, and i am getting sound from both output wires on the back of the stereo :D
Dunno whether this will end up being worse news ,as the next thing is either the wiring between head unit and DSP amp in boot,or the amp itself.
Will let you know how it turns out.
Cheers for the help so far guys
