hi guys hve just taken my stereo out of my p38 as its not powering up at all and going to replace it with a aftermarket one but the original one has got 2 aerial sockets and leads 1 black and 1 red any ideas what the 2 are for and what one should i use for my new stereo thanks

and a coax is a coax. FM is FM.

this is the reason that CB ariels work as normal radio recievers.

the cables and frequency are the same. which means they should both work as ariels. just try them, nothing will blow. but as a quess the black is the radio areil

no phone no tvs no sat nav etc just the standard range rover clarion stereo and cd changer, all correct wiring plugs none have been chopped etc and the aerials cables are both together and plug into the relavant colour on back of the original head unit
both the sockets are the same

Use either, they are similar, one built in each rear window

I'm fairly sure Clarion used what was called "diversity" where there are two FM aerials, it has something to do with making sure there is a clean signal and gives better stereo separation or something. I don't know about the set up on a P38 but the later RRC had the "extra" diversity aerial on the rear side window, the other aerial I think is the heated rear screen, somewhere there is probably an aerial amplifier and this then feeds both signals back to the head unit.

If you are replacing the head unit you can use just a single aerial, I would suspect you can use either but personally I would try and find out which cable goes to the primary aerial. the alternative is plug one in and see how you go and then swap it for the other and see which gives the best reception.

I have the same two ariel antenna connections and it is to do with there being an ariel built into each side of the rear windows. The Diversity radio takes both (I believe it compares the strengh of both signals and uses the stronger one), but I have upgraded to a modern stereo unit and just used one of the leads and it works fine. Not that it makes any difference but I used the black connection - it was just the one I picked out first when fitting the newer stereo.

i put the stereo in today as my lead turned up so i could wire a normal stereo into the system with the built in amp(10 pin pink plug with the rear sub) and i used the red lead and stereo signal seems very good at the mo will try it out on a run tomorrow
