steering wheel play. before or after?

i know how to adjust it out after going through the search facility.
But. i have maybe 1/4" to 1/2" play when first getting in the car,
and zero play after starting the engine.
i`m assuming this is because the power steering pump brings the system up to pressure.
so should i leave alone

shouldnt make and difference to actual play, which can only be checked with box central as play is normally there either side depends where the play is coming from, normal adjustment pushes sector shaft into input shaft so that there is no play or to tight a contact between them
