Any one else had this problem? The rubber boot has come away at one end and all the power steering fuild has leaked out. Has done this once before abot 12 months ago and managed to fix it with some cable ties. is there a proper prt or is cable ties and refill and wait again for another 12 months?

P.s. hello again all :)

Dont think so, looks like the end "O" ring is held in place with some kind of cable tie, unless this was bodged before I got it........

I think your 'O' Rings are shot also, the rubber boot is for keeping dust out, not keeping fluid in.

Yes, it has been bodged prior to you buying the car... The Haynes manual doesn't show an overhaul of the steering rack, so, I would be getting a replacement very very soon if it were me, bodge it for now - so that it is still drivable so you can collect a rack if needs must, but don't be driving it constantly as you run the risk of losing steering, and if that happens you'll be looking for more than a new steering rack .

A few years ago I thought I might need a gaiter replacing due to an over zealous MOT inspector.I got a quote for a gaiter (£35) to be replaced. IIRC the labour cost from an indie was about £280 !!
Just a warning of the bill you might expect without including the cost of the rack.
