Steering Rack for LHD conversion

Hi people,

I have a 2004 Freelander 1.8 petrol that was originally RHD. The previous owner converted it to LHD, however i now need to replace the steering rack on the car, but i am having a bit of trouble locating a LHD steering rack that isn't crazily expensive.

The issue is that i live on a small island in spain and the rack on the car at the moment does not have a part number on it. Someone is selling a LHD Freelander 1998 1.8 petrol for parts on the island, and i was wondering if this part would fit my car?
I have spoken with a few people in the UK, and no one has been able to confirm if it will fit the car okay, so was hoping that someone on here might be able to help?

Really appreciate you help, as it has been a bit of a nightmare trying to sort this out.

Do you have the part number I'm going past main dealer in Faro tomorrow can ask them if its the same.

Hi Mate,

Thanks for responding and offering to do that.

I've been trying to get the lady who has the 1998 model to send me it, but not had much luck. When i spoke with a parts company in the Uk, they said the part for the 1998 model should be STC50579E, and the part for my 2004 needs to be QAB000314. But he couldnt tell me if the 1998 would fit the 2004.

I found some racks in main land Spain from a couple of breakers that are number QAB000314E, do you know if the E on the end makes any difference? would obviously be cheaper and easier just to get the part from this lady in ibiza, instead of a breakers, because i need the tie rods and ends too, and my Spanish is pretty limited, so checking it is all included might be a problem!

Will stop at main dealer and ask.
Euro4x4 parts list 314e fits all freelanders from 98 to it was either 04 or 06 cant remember which, if thats any help.

not yet mate, i've found a few QAB000314E parts in Spain from breakers, which are not too much, so think im going to order one of them. Language barrier is a bit of an issue, so not sure if they come with the Rods and ends.

The lady who had the freelander here in ibiza for parts is a nightmare at getting back to me, and don't want to wait around anymore really.

I couldnt figure out how to move this to a different thread ha.
