steering guard and snorkel

may I have your recommendations good sirs/ladies
for the above for my H reg landy pics are in my Hello post

I do not have rockerfellas money nor trumps
these are the 1st two jobs I shall attempt on my landy so learned views are appreciated

MOD Snorkle - £60 or so
Paddocks steel guard - £80 or so

Go for galvanised steering guard as they stay the same for ever all the gold finished ones always end up rusty.
I bought a 2nd hand Safari snorkel for mine, there are cheap copies available on ebay, craddock, paddock etc
If you do any laning the safari type are a royal pain in the rear as they catch on everything and the top ends up broken, the ones that fit on top of the wing might be better.

I quite like the Mantec plastic jobby as far as snorkels go. There are some decent looking and cheap steering guards on ebay, never got round to getting one though

I have a Alloy steering guard going cheap in good condition but about 60 miles away from you ?

+1 The glav one I got from Paddocks 4/5 years ago is still protecting well and has been through a fair bit of abuse. I also went for the MOD snorkel as they are steel and coated, again taken some beatings from the lanes over the years paint is still intact and it is not dented. I have however lost 3 mushrooms in that time...

Not an issue if you run with the intake turned around, been on for 12-years without problems.

See now I always thought that meant you batted for the other side

Have to say lot of the Kent lanes are so tight even my bare to the bones series 2 struggles to fit down them, I can genuinely say theres quite a lot that once you are down them you cant even open the doors!

Mate tell me about it!! Thats where allI lost all my snorkel tops and recently some alpine glass and a big dent...

Or Bahco, I love my socket set so much my brother carried it 25 miles through the Kyrgyzstan mountains when our car broke down so it didn't get left behind!

It was on the car when I purchased it so don't know its exact value

Its made by Southdown out of some chunky Alloy similar ones new appear to be around £150 ish Mark

this is the only picture I have of it when it was fitted.

Its in used condition so if you want mint chelsea tractor forget it will try dig it out the garage and get a photo on the weekend in daylight

How much actual benefit do you get from a snorkel? The air intake's pretty high up anyway and shielded by the wheel arch. As I understand it, their main purpose is as a raised air intake in dusty conditions- hence the intake facing backwards. In most cases, seems like just another gadget to get caught on trees. Unless you're actually driving up a river of course by which point you might need a snorkel for the driver as well...
