Steering Drop Arm - Replacment part?

That's my point - not all of them give you enough lip sticking out to catch on the special tool or improvised cut down bolt head. Either as a result of wear or because the hole in the narrow end of the seat isn't any smaller than the hole in the top of the drop arm to start with. Never mind - next time I need to change mine I'll take some pictures and show you what I mean.

all i can say is ive done quite a few ,and rarely failed, there is very little lip thats why getting the just right size to squeeze through top hole is important

its a while since I did one, but seem to remember welding a scrap of steel onto the seat, then using a large pin punch. also seem to remember it came out fairly easy with heat from weld helping.
I was kind of involved but not my job, if you know what I mean!

Now that's an idea. Put a dollop of weld on it so there's something to get a grip on. Unless of course you accidently weld the seat to the drop arm.

I'm not impugning your experience, for which I have the greatest respect. Indeed, every time I hammer an undersized socket onto a rounded nut or bolt I call it the 'James Martin manoeuvre'. There's even the 'reverse James Martin' where one hammers a larger Allen or torx key into a rounded Allen head screw. I'm just saying next time mine's worn out I expect I'll have the same problem as Buster here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f41/drop-arm-ball-joint-renewal-63811.html

Decided im going for the Disco conversion. Just makes more sense.. and shouldnt actually cost that much more.

Long shot, but i dont suppose anyone has a HD puller South London/North Kent area?

Spoke to Gywn Lewis today, they said that Defender front steering arm is shorter than a Disco one. So to accomdate the Disco conversion I need a new HD front steering arm. This make sense to everyone?

Righto! Never dealt with them before just checking really!

He's a one man band.

He jokes he can't employ anyone to man the phones as all the info he posses on his kits and the ear he stocks isn't written down, its all in his head!

His workshop is off the beaten track but he has everything in stock and he has in the past lent us parts to get home. :)

Arrived today! Very quick and the new track rod ends have grease nipples!

Got a mate coming round tomorrow, probably going to cut the bastad off.

Anyone got any pics of how exactly you cut it off?
