Hi i am in the process of replacing power steering box and noticed when tie bar is removed there appears to be no bush in the very large hole were the threaded end goes ,is this normal?

yes, its a large hole so pas box can be fitted tight without having to put any strain on the box,nip all the bolts up before tightening any fully
 
The very first defender steering box I removed caught me out, it doesn't look particularly heavy as I was lying underneath looking up at it but the lump on my head when it dropped on it ensured I learnt that lesson.:rolleyes:.
Two people is easier and make sure the threads are clean and the box is tight up against the chassis rail , it's easy to cross thread the bolts if it isn't.
