OK,guys.
Last weekend I replaced the seals on the drop arm steering box of my mates 300tdi.
An interesting job,to say the least.
Anyhoooow.
I was reversing it into the garage yesterday to change the cam belt.& the steering box seal blew out.I had somehow pushed the C clip & the seal out,so,dropped all the fluid.Hey ho.
Pulled it appart,I thought perhaps I hadn't seated the C clip properly.
So,rebuilt it,making sure the C clip was properly seated....Guess what? The bugger has done it again.
So,my question is,do any of you clever people have any idea why it may have done this????
I'm stumped.
Thanks a lot
Marc

you did fit the steel backing washer after seal and before circlip, for it to blow out circlip or housing would have to be poor or the fitting

Ok,it turned out the circlip wasn't seated properly.
When the 2 seals were fitted, the blue one and the black rubber metalcoverd one, there wasn't much room to fit the circlip,I could only just see the groove.
Anyhoooow;I got it in eventualy last night.
So,we'll see how it goes.
Thanks for all imput lads.:)
