Steam coming out of central air vents disco 2

Disco 2,steam coming out of central air vents the other day ,heaters playing up ,if you set temp to say 21c when that is reached it cuts out then goes cold and stays cold,same with aircon set it to 16c once that is reached very often it cuts out then just warms up,
Worried about the steam ,can't be smoke no smell of burning,fades away then comes back.

Is it visable steam, or just the windscreen misting up a bit?

These last few days have been a bit like hard work for the D2 climate control, what with both the temperature and the humidity. The system is a climate control, not just air conditioning. When the cabin reaches the set temperature the system will start introducing cooler air to maintain that temperature, it won't continue to push warm air into the cabin. Full cooling is when the controller is set to "LO".

I had a case only this morning where I turned the climate control off using the "econ" button and within about five or ten minutes the air in the car started to feel a bit humid and the screen and side windows started to mist up. Turning the climate control on again and things cleared very quickly.

If you're not losing any coolant, then it's unlikely to be the heater matrix leaking and creating steam. The heater matrix is permanently in the cooling line so it will always be warm.

Hi Brian,thanks for your reply,yes it is visible steam coming from the central air vent,No windows misting up, no coolant loss,what i was worried about was the heater matrix leaking but hopefully thats ok.

Without seeing and smelling the steam it's difficult to say what's going on.

You should first diagnose where the water which is making the steam is coming from and then what's actually heating it up to the point of creating steam.

If the steam was clean with no smell then that would suggest that it's clean water, in which case it could be from somewhere like the AC cooling matrix run-off tray in the air-con unit. The tray should drain to underneath the car but the drains do get stuck and that results in a build up of water in the tray, but I've never heard of anything getting hot enough to boil it off.

So the upshot is I'm stumped, sorry.
