Hi Guys,

Just wondered if theres a cold starting proceedure on the P38 4.6 year 2000.

On the rare occasion i get to drive it ive noticed when cold ie first thing in the morning it spins over quite a bit before starting.it does start eventually by giving it a bit of throttle, am i doing something wrong?????
When its warm its starts fine.

Thanks Si....

Are you waiting for the Glow Plug Symbol to extinguish??

If you are, try turning the ignition off and and back on again waiting for a second time, if it starts easier, you could have duff Glow Plugs...

If after 2 or 3 heat cycles there is no change or marginal change, next thing would be to check for power to the plugs, if that checkes out, time to pull the plugs and bench test them by applying power to them and see if they glow, but ffs don't touch them they will give serious burns....

Another check would be the clear pipe from the fuel filter, if this has air bubbles in, this could point to the spill (leak off) pipes being split. (cheap and simple to replace).

Also if the tank is less than about a 3rd full, and it struggles, try with a full tank, if it starts easier, you have a duff in tank lift pump, they tend to struggle below a 3rd of a tank full...

IGNORE ME - I DIDN'T SEE IT WAS A PETROL V8 - OOPS, SORRY
