Every time I start the engine, the starter motor gives quite a loud mechanical clicking sound before firing up. She always starts, even with this sound - just wondered if it's a warning sign to change the motor?
Cheers, J

Hi mate , That clicking noise will be the starter solenoid clicking ( small round part of the starter that the wires are on ) , Id get it overhauled if I was you ( have you got a starter/alternator centre close by that could put a new BUS bar and contacts in for you ?? , Im lucky as Ive got one 3 mins down the road from me .

Failing that its either a new motor or good 2nd hand one is needed mate .

Thanks Sypher - i'll checK the yello pages!

BEFORE YOU DO THAT! Check to make sure that the earth lead from the starter motor to the engine block / chassis has not rubbed through and come into direct contact with the positive feed from the battery. The two leads often cross one another and wear through causing a short, or the terminal connections may be loose or badly corroded. Remove all the wires to and from the starter motor and solenoid, check them for damage and then clean all of the terminals with a bit of sand paper. Re-fit them and see if it makes any difference. It's worth a check before you start getting the solenoid looked at.
