stanage green lanes , how bad is it ?

im thinking of taking my beast for a day out round stanage and the surrounding areas with the wife and a few friends . ik now they always say never go alone but are there that many risks on the way ? i know the area very well cos im up ther climbing a couple of times a month but never taken the beast out .

working on the basis of my beast is in 9.5 / 10 condition what are the chances of coming back in one peice ?

i'll be following the routes on from this web site and always checking the grid references against the os map

You should go down it. There is a Voluntary Order asking that you drive down it and not up it. We did it last month it was good fun, going down chaplegate was most fun tho. Jai

I went down it in a standard 110 defender. There was also a standard discovery 2 (I think, 2 or 1) with us. No problems if you choose the right line. The first few times I'd try and go with someone thats been before to help you. The lines not that obvious, or at least it wasn't to me.

What lil-landy says, a standard Disco (It was a D1 200 Tdi, and my 300 Tdi which is mostly standard) or Defender can make it pretty easily, but lines are a bit 'odd' and might not be immediately obvious ..

FFS don't do it alone! you may get stuck and you'd look a right tit stuck up there and be waiting hours for someone to tow you off
i did it on a 2" lift disco with 235 85 16 mt tyres on and didn't get stuck.
but i always do the challenging stuff with someone else,
it does make sence really

Stannage Edge is perfectly drivable provided you have both good control and a spotter you can trust...

Chapel Gate IIRC has some harsh steps which are a bit disturbing even in a tricked up Landy, if you've not driven it before. By the time you've hit them, you're at the point of no return..!

All great lanes though and well woth a venture out there...

yes it's perfectly driveable IF you take the right line, but if you don't you are fooked!

what are the lanes like in the surrounding area ? may give stanage a miss and just to a few lanes around the area .

i really dont want to get stuck or broken just want to get out and about in my landy and get home in one peice , a few nice moorland crosings and forest routes would do me just fine

houndkirk road is a good lane, nice and easy but chalenging if you want it to be,
there are plenty of good lanes but do your research first!

if you want to tag along with us sometime give me a shout
it's our local stomping ground and we know the lanes really well

I'm also up for a trip out with you at some point. It's been nearly two weeks since I've been laning!

i got stuck on stanage in me classic.Grounded out on the same rock everyone grounds out on.Still good learning curve nodamge done to me motor or the lane.Good day out but testing

that was before i fitted the lift and bigger tyres:mooning:

not to bothered now though as i know i'll get down

Yep. Me ranguie sits pretty low at the best of times, needs new springs amonst other things.

How'd you get it stuck? I got my Classic down Stanage with no problems and no it isn't lifted or fitted with big tyres. LOL, like you say though, testing, but good fun.

Stanage is all about what line you take, jai got hooked up with a lifted 90 on 900's

I thought I'd deviate from the normal route everyone took the same route that seemed a bit boring to me.

I should really say line not route that sounds like i went off pist. I took a different line to that of everyman and his dog

Yeah one rock slightly bigger than i thought.The drop to one side and the shear face to the other meant i was about 3 inches too central. :doh:
