Ok guys, stripped out the connector from the steering wheel, checked both wires through the connecter from the plugs, when I removed it I took it of with the cable still attached both ends and not the plugs at the connector. when testing I am getting a circuit even when swapping one end, its as if the two wires going through the connector is one wire ? Hope this makes sense, its like the wires are shorting accross. Don't know much about electrics but this seems wrong to me. Any help will be gratefully recieved.
Cheers Davie.

Ok the connector or SRS donut as iv'e been informed is the correct name looks like its goosed (common problem apparently), so phoned the guy (gwent 4 x 4) that is supplying my door lock and as he was sending it today has put the donut in with it at no extra shipping cost and only £35 for the donut, so hopefully they and the new discs will arrive for the weekend and I can get stuck in.
Cheers

There is a specific way to fit the rotary coupler make sure you follow it or you may waste £35.00. Also before removing it you are supposed to diconnect battery and allow SRS to discharge or you can get a face full of airbag.

What specific way, I thought it was just a case of making sure it was in the correct orientation, the battery was disconnected 1 hour before it was dismanteled and is still disconnected. If you can give me some additional info it would be much appreciated.

It is covered in RAVE and in a tech service sheet, that for the life of me i cannot find for some reason. It must be centred when fitted there is a proceedure for doing this. Wheels straight ahead rotary coupler ribbon centred. Otherwise you will snap the ribbon turning from lock to lock.

Ok on the one I removed there is silver tape on the front and side, when I centred the wheels and after removing the steering wheel the tape was lined up so I'm hoping that the replacement has the same tape, if not I will need to find a procedure.

Wammers, I tried the old one and it turns 2 3/4 turns either way of centre, thanks for the tip as sometime even the obvious can be so easily overlooked and costs time and money.
Thanks

Yeah if you had wheels straight ahead when you took it off and new one is centred no problem. It's a bit hairy fairy in RAVE but there was a technical bulletin that described the procedure. But can't find the bloody thing.
