Hi folks....Replaced the main windscreen wiper switch On the steering column) the weekend.
After disconnecing the battery and leaving it around 20 mins-as reccomended, I then removed the drivers airbag, cassette (Squib) etc. to get at the switch. All went straightforward without any problems. I had left the steering wheel in the straight ahead position before I started and noticed that the white indicator on the squib was central. Refitted everything and reconnected the battery. The SRS lamp went out as normal and stayed out.
Today however, I went to the car, turned the ignition on and the SRS lamp did a self check, went out for about 5 secs. and came on & stayed on.
The car has not been moved or the steering wheel turned since I started the job.
I think it needs to go onto diagnostics for a fault read/reset, does anyone know of an Independant in North Wales or can offer any advice.

By the way...we are snow free here apart from on the hills !!

Is it worth disconnecting the airbag again - may be a glitch?

Thanks for the reply...appreciated.
Anything is worth a shot at this stage !!
After disconnecting the battery, having a brew and a fag-it only takes a few minutes to remove the airbag.....and if needs be, the squib.

One problem living here is that the nearest Main Stealer is in Conwy, about 50 miles away.
It's times like this that I think "Maybe I shouldn't have sold my Faultmate a couple of years ago !!!)
I have a nasty feeling that the SRS ECU will store it as a "Hard fault" and it will need a reset though.

Sold your flatmate - think that's illegal!!:) I changed both my air bags yonks back. As I remember, left the battery off for longer b4 disconnecting but cant see this making much difference. The ECU checks the SRS each time you switch on, so if this does not work its probs an OBII job.

After an almighty stomp on the brakes my SRS came on and wouldn't go off again, nothing had activated. My local MOT guys reset it with their diagnostics 9 months ago so no need for a main dealer.

No idea, but its just a back street garage so it wont be Test Book.

Worth a punt at the local garage. I have access to Test Book at a friends independent LR workshop in Birmingham BUT it's a 330 mile round trip

I'm going to disconnect the battery tomorrow and check the connections to the airbag & squib. Just had a thought....I removed the CD multiplayer from under the drivers seat today because the magazine had jammed. I am 99% sure that the pretensioner wiring was untouched-I remember seeing the connector which was clipped to the seat base. I will unplug it and give it a dose of switch cleaner.
Er Indoors Vectra sometimes throws a SRS fault up for no reason, fortunately I have the diagnostics for that and it's a 10 minute job.
Lets see what tomorrow brings !!

The srs box won't be hard locked a you have not had a crash. I had a similar problem a few years ago so took it to a place call Ian Barclay on the Wirral ( if that is any closer than Conway) and reset it. And told me it was the drivers seat belt that was the problem. Been alright since. Well until I crashed it then the srs box hard locked. That garage charged me £20 and while they where plugged in tested all the other systems on the car.

The roving mechanic I use on occasion has Snap On Solus - this seems to work fine on the Freelandy.

Yes..I used to repair/reprogram Becm's for the P38 plus I found it inispensable on my own & other P38's for owners when we lived in Ireland as apart from Main Stealers there were no Independants with full diagnostic capability. I also finished up doing a lot of jobs on Becm's for the Main Dealers when they got stuck or couldn't be arsed to work on the P38 electrics. I decided to sell up for an easier life and also sell my P38...Little did I know I would be buying a Hippo !!!
Sold the kit to a guy in Scotland who I believe is making a crust with it.

Was going to do a disconnect/reconnect of the pretensioner connector under the drivers seat today but Er Indoors dragged me off to Caernarfon instead . Came back this afternon and it's throwing rain & sleet down so hopefully will do it tomorrow and report back.

Thanks for the advice Guys :):)

UPDATE......Right Guys-Disconnected the battery and left it for 20 mins whilst I had a cup of tea:tea: and a smoke :smokin:
Disconnected the connector under the drivers seat and gave it a dose of electrical switch cleaner-the pins looked clean anyway. Then removed the drivers airbag....the connector had come off the airbag  Bad design really, the connector on Er Indoors Vectra and my old P38 had a sliding lock on it which had to be released before the plug could be removed whereas this one just pushed on-no sign of a locking tab/clip due to the design.
Anyway put everything together making 100% sure that the connector stayed on, despite the cable from the squib being quite stiff, and reconnected the battery. The SRS light is still on, obviously the ECU has logged it as a hard fault-so now a trip to a local garage to see if I can get it reset.

To cap it all...some prat who was driving in the middle of the road yesterday smacked the drivers door mirror as they went past, the body is undamaged but needs a new heated glass at £18.00 + VAT.:deadhorse:

Glad you got to the bottom of SRS. Sorry about door mirror but that an easy fix and could have been worse by sounds!

FINAL UPDATE...You won't believe this !!!!

About 10 minutes after sending my last post, I jumped in the car to go up to the local garage and...........The SRS light went out as it should :D
Have done around 70 miles today taking Er Indoors to the shops and the car has been stopped-started-parked-started and the SRS light is doing what it should.
Island 4x4 have despatched the mirror and should be with me tomorrow-in case anyone has the same problem, the R.H. Convex mirror glass (Heated) for the Powerfold mirror is Part No. CRD101150 Price £18.00 +VAT & Postage. It comes complete with the clip attached so it's just a straigh swap over.
Next job is replace the VCU and bearings plus replace the propshaft U.J's at the same time as a matter of course whilst I have it all stripped. I hope Bell Engineering have one !!!!
Thanks Guys......:amen:
