"Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of Airbags..."
You're a brave man, Gary - fascinating stuff!

thks, i do like a challenge that's for sure

know it will take me a while but will find the fault in the end

step by step, as if it was designed by man , it goes to reason man should be able to fix it, lol

alas i know it will be worth it in the end , refuse to pay hundreds of pounds out for land rover dealers to look at it, would be a defeat then

will also i hope be of some use to another D3 owner

well after many days i managed to find the fault and managed to keep my sanity, well just , lol

was the drivers seat airbag , so didn't need to replace the main srs ecu , just reset it after replacing the airbag to service normal state

spent today getting the headlining back in and now is starting to look half decent again

few pics of the results

I'm glad you sorted it ... though how did you end up with this conclusion cos you didnt want to listen from post #12 here and made all this huge work in vain:confused:

i went from what the fault codes were telling me , as there was no mention of the ecu at fault

if i had of replaced or sent away the ecu i would have still been in the same position

wasn't the case of not listening but what was in front of me , suppose the same way of when i useto repair boilers and heating systems, going through the system stage by stage , bit by bit, not skipping any stages

don't get me wrong im extremely grateful for the help, i just couldn't see how the ecu could be at fault if there was no fault codes

however if it had of been the ecu i certainly would have eaten humble pie

Well done Gary :D

bless u , has indeed been one hell of a fix, but at the end of the day have gained a massive amount of knowledge

unplugged the seat airbag first and was luckily enough that was the one giving me the 10ohm readings

so had to take the seat apart again , replaced the seat airbag , reset the main ecu to normal service condition , then waited and eureka the srs light went out , thk christ :D:D

I think there's a huge misunderstanding here, in post 12 when i said ''airbag module" i meant airbag which means the airbag (''module'') to me not SRS ECU.... like this for drivers side http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Discovery-3-Steering-Wheel-Airbag-Module-EHM500550PVJ-with-Warranty/351994401902?_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=2&asc=40656&meid=021e33dcaa0d4a2585d63d2e4d4f8975&pid=100623&rk=1&rkt=6&sd=252845310020 , "module" doesnt mean ECU for me cos i'm accurate with terminology and that's SRS ECU all the way .... so if you understood ECU instead of airbag i'm sorry but i wqas trying to lead you on the good path...thats' why i insisted on that resistor so much, to rule out the airbag module i've never suspected the ECU in this thread

i think i must also send my sincere apologies , as i did indeed think u was talking about the srs ecu

as i've heard the ecu being called a module before , i keep calling that a steering wheel airbag

ooooppps, , lol

this is what i thought , as they have also called it a module

once again , sorry about that , can see now where u was coming from ;):D

Uffff,:( too bad you worked so much in vain.... that's why i insisted on that resistor so much to rule out the airbag(module) i didnt suspect the ECU at all ... at least you know more about that system now:cool:

u are so right , with me having to go through all that , ;)

have indeed picked up a huge amount of knowledge , if i'm honest was abit chicken using the resistors , lol

the way i was reading the live ohm readings was the wires had to be ok, as it has the wire in and wire out of each airbag to give me the ohm readings

alas though it was my inexperinace that certainly made the job ten times longer

great to know ref the resistors for future , which i hope i never have to use, as the entire airbag system has been checked , all the fault codes have now gone :D

this was the last reading i got , light error was only because i had the lights disconnected and air con needs regassing

Hi did you manage to solve your issue as there is a unit on the market to test / reset these issues. if you need a diagnostic unit try Diagnostic world who have a number of good units that work as I have just purchased one of them myself.
