The rotary coupler has shorting pins in the plugs as well that's why you get continuity in each plug across the pins, you should have only from one side to another.... you simply can't diagnose these things with a multimeter, use that resistor

think i may have to remove the srs ecu and send it away to get it tested and reset

just can't see what else it can be

going to spend some time checking all the wiring in case there's any breaks , clutching at straws really

know to get the ecu out is a nightmare but just can't see any options

really frustrating , as it's just finding out what is causing the error

So what's so complicated with using that resistor though? ...coss that would rule out the airbag module

being totally honest at the moment i'm petrified in doing something wrong and setting something off

don't get me wrong i know ur very experienced and u know what ur talking about

hope that doesn't come across as rude or disrespectful in any way as i know ur being very helpful and don't want to be rude in any way

in case there's an unknown error and using it in the system fires something

sorry didn't put it in

says it doesn't work if there any crash data , that was the bit that worried me

feel really bad as i know ur trying to help

No worries just that i have the feeling that sending the ECU away would be useless and you'll just work in vain cos the problem is more simple

i wouldn't be surprised if ur spot on ,

have been considering also about finding a mobile airbag specialist to come out and have a look

as there's 8 x air bags i don't want to do anything wrong and set them off

reading that in any crash the ecu stores crash data and locks the ecu and won't allow the srs light to go out until its cleared , then read other posts on sites saying its plug and play

i have contacted iid the diagnostic company to see if they can tell me if there's a crash error if the iid will display a code

that way can at least hold off sending the box off until i find out, doing it stage by stage

do appreciate the fantastic help

I'm no airbag specialist but IMO if you erase the fault codes then follow the procedure for airbag replacement as in the workshop manual(with battery disconnction etc. i dont know exactly how it is for D3 but i can find out) and put that resistor instead of the RH air bag then IMO nothing bad can happen, eventually it stores another fault code if the resistance is too low or the same fault code if the problem is elswhere than in the airbag unit

that's what i'd do if i was you but i'm not encouraging you to do that unless you are determined to do it anyway cos i'm not the most cautious guy so you being prudent is a good attitude

am terrible , like to go through things step by step, like the idea of the resistor but says it won't work with crash data , maybe it shuts that side down, lol

after i replaced the 2 x curtain airbags the codes went

but left with this one code saying right hand control

only airbag left is the seat one, however i would have thought if that had gone off it would tear the cover apart

going to reinstall the clock spring steering wheel etc ,

alas i don't know if it could be a break in a wire somewhere or faulty impact sensor

seeing they had just cut out the curtain airbags i wonder what else they done ,

when i removed the drivers door card as the speaker wasn't working , found it hadn't been plugged in, so that was a quick fix, but indicated to me it must have been off or taken apart,

wonder if it's worth tracing all the wires and make sure they haven't been cut, ????

at the end of the day this is all a massive learning curve for me, never had to deal with an airbag system

just taken some live readings , didn't even know the srs ones could be tested, doh

have got the passenger airbag turned off at the switch

also think the landy is in abit of a mess, lol

I'd go with @sierrafery and the resistors first.....
I do agree that playing about in a car full of explosives is a bit sphincter-clenching though.

unfortunately can't use them , they say it won't work with crash data

from the live data its now showing me that there ok apart from one line, i think

know there's a crash data wire that goes to the engine ecu and onto the srs airbag light

wonder if the srs ecu is sending out the block code and it's this number 7 with high ohms

determined not to let it beat me

I dont see any crash data in your logs though... and there's no wire for that cos the communication is through CAN data bus, also(just my presumption) that if the ECU was locked due to a crash log it would not let you read live datas, at least that's how other ECUs are working

suppose i'm going on the side of caution

i was wondering ref the different circuits of maybe unplugging the airbags one by one , so it will then identify the circuit 7

but u will know considerably more than me, wondering why on number 7 i'm getting a higher ohms reading than the other ones

as there's 12 x readings , i assume it gets the readings with one wire in and one wire out

could is possibly be a bad airbag , they were second hand from a reputable breaker

so just thought if i disconnect the battery first , unplug the airbags then reconnect the battery , retest the live data and maybe that will then at least narrow what circuit is what

can then write down the different readings as i unplug the airbags

don't know what u think plse

As you see that nr.7 should be the same with the RH side one which triggered the fault code cos all the others are within the 2-3 ohm range so there is the trouble IMO, as about disconnecting/reconnecting the battery is not so simple as it appears cos if you dont follow the procedure described in the manual you might end up immobilised or with other fault codes stored...see attachment

thks for that

would u be so kind to send that pdf via my email please

will pm it over to u , can't open it on my ipad for some reason

really do appreciate the help with this

slowly getting there and also should be good to help some one else if the case ever arises
