Splash guards for series landrovers

hello all, i though id show you some tricks i have to stop dirt from getting stuck in places and causing rot,
if anyone needs any info i'll help answer it.

i have some pics,

stop mud getting on the bulkhead outrigger

stops dirt and mad getting in between the outrigger and tank

see the colour i did to the wheels

stops dirt getting on the rear cross member.

looks good mate, ive got the week off work to do the same , gonna get the surface rust off my solid chassis ,jenolite,then black paint,got some sheets of thin ali im gonna rivet on

your wheels look good too bud

thanks guys, the tyres im running are MRF brand 'made in India' cross ply tyres, super traction 7.50 x16 on standard series 2a rims, but i have seen on my rims ROH Australia, they look like rover type rims. tyres are worth AUD $230.
i did a google search on mrf and on wiki it said they are the largest manufacturer of tyres in India, and they have been in business since 1946, if the alignment is good you should get well over 5 years on them, im not too sure how many kms they have done though.what i do is get new ones for the rear and get the rear ones put them on the front as the front wears the tyres quicker then the rear so then i get about 2to 3 years then when they are worn out on the front go and buy more then do the same again. i have found out that is the most economic way to do it with mine, but other landrovers may wear differently or the same.

oh the rims are painted a off cream sort of like the colour Svitzer uses on their tugs, and the blue is deep based tintable 'dulux colour' Snap shot blue in a Dulux Chromamax oil based paint, the whloe landrover is done in the same colour and it was painted about a year ago and is holding its gloss quite ok, i do drive around a local port a lot and always get slat mist on it,

brushed on too, i have to sand some areas where the cream is as i did not prep it right and some paint is flaking off,
anyway hope that helps.

heres mine , done today, only wanted to wire brush my solid chassis and paint ,but as usual it snowballed, splash guard was knackered,had fun with rusty bolts

used old one as template and made it from ali sheet ,bolted/riveted,nice eh!!!

thats one corner......

I'm surprised no manufacturer has designed / made a full plastic / flexible wheel are liner that covers from front wing height and back down to below the footwell to offer full protection. Bulkheads would last so much longer without the stone chips, mud and road salt thrown at them.

good job, all you need is a mud flap to cover the bottom section and she'll last for quite some time.

i hear the road salt is real bad over there, we dont need salt over here, never snows, summers can be real hot, the land rover can feel the heat in summer too, as the temp gauge can run slightly hotter when stationary, i run a 72 c thermostat in it with corrosion inhibitor and i have a electric fan on the front but its not wired up anymore as i dont try to idle around too long.
however in summer here lots of people sit in their new air-conditioned cars and they have been known to idle over for half an hour or more while they eat lunch or if they go into a shop and leave someone in the car leave it running, cant be too good leaving it running at idle for too long, they remind of truck drivers as they leave their trucks running, i know the cops in town have a nissan patrol speed camera unit (static), and it sits at idle for the 6 hours its stationed at a location, and i saw it take off once and a big cloud of blue smoke poured out, and she was only about 4 to 5 years old, she would have had polished bores, they have a new one now.

anyway the only salt vehicles get over here is from beach work.

cheers tony ,ive already drilled the bottom, probably gonna use more ali, formed to go underneath a bit too,this stuff has a brown film u can peel off
