Hi Guys,

I have now finished replacing the VCU on my Freelander 1 TD4 with a brand new OEM one (and giving back to the community by publishing the rotation time test for a brand new one - which no one had bothered to do before.. 34 seconds by the way.. google freelander vcu jtq4u to see the you tube video of the tests).

After moving on from this I have been working on adding cruise control. Conrad Anderson (the main aftermarket cruise control sales people in the uk) said it couldn't be done witha vaccum powered kit on a freelander 1 td4 as there isn't space to move the pedal using a control wire.. instead wanting to sell me a kit 200 pounds more.. however it seems it can be done as I have succeeded. HOWEVER - I am using a signal for speed based on magnets and a sensor that I had to install on the propshaft. Not ideal in my opinion. When I did an x trail I just used a speed signal wire. FL1 TD4 Doesn't have one of these to the speedo as it uses CANBUS.

Does anyone know (and it has to be specific to the 'FL1 td4 manual' as they are all different) if there is a wire somewhere that I can easily access. I thought about the radio but this doesn't even come under easy as the center console, gear knob, front face etc have to be removed to undo the security bolt on the rear of the radio.. worth considering if I am desperate (if it is actually present there??).. but is there an easier source?

Alternatively would a canbus interface that outputs speed work on the FL1?

Cheers

James
