The speedometer on my 300Tdi has packed up. After much swearing and contortionism, I got the unit off, cleaned it, cleaned the contacts on the plug and reassembled it all. Before re-fitting to the car, we spun it round with the drill and registered 50mph on the speedo! Excellent 
But, after re-fitting, no speedo still.... so, took it off, re-checked everything. The femal socket on the transfer box looks fine, no wear on the end of the shaft. Only issue we could find was the white washer at the back of the unit being loose. Re-fitted it, and still no speedo at all.
I'm puzzled here - somehow, the sensor isn't being turned by the drive train? My local Landy specialist is closed, but my current plan is to pop over on Tuesday and see if he has a second-hand unit I can borrow to see if that is the issue, but other suggestions much appreciated...
