SPEAKERS UPGRADE.....please help

This is probably a fairly obvious question but with the standard head unit in place will replacing just the speakers make any significant difference? I am happy to purchase 4 decent speakers, but if the head unit is not capable of pushing enough power out to improve the sound quality, would it be a waste of money?

Unless your speakers are distorting then its probably not worth upgrading them if you're not changing the head unit.

The factory standard head unit makes around 5 watts RMS per channel!!
It's all here. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/freelander-gets-proper-sub-woofer-223690.html

I reproduced the factory mounts out of MDF then sprayed them black as I noticed you could see the MDF through the grilles. I mounted this on a thin layer of very dense foam cut from ones of those mats you get for camping mats. Normal roof flashing was used to mat out the doors as this is very close to the real stuff and at a fraction of the cost. The speakers run off of the factory head unit. Whilst I know the head unit is not ideal the speakers do a much better job than the factory ones. I have a mix of 5" Infinity and Vibe components that I picked up years ago in the sale at Halfords knowing they would come in handy for something. They have "run in" and are sounding very good indeed.

Just fitted new front speakers in my 3 door facelift
16.5 up from standard 13 cm
Fit no problem just take time to central them and use good quality fixings
